Debris
These days I look around for Christian voices that have no influence from politics and I find very few. The majority of "voices" from every Christian tradition align with the conservative, Republican agenda. It's almost a given. I'm strongly aware of Christian leftists but that's not what I'm really looking for. I want to find people who say that politics is politics, now let's talk about our faith. This type of conversation was easy to find in the formative decades of my life, the 1980's and 1990's. Sure I knew that most Evangelicals were aligned with the right because of abortion back then. But that was as far as it went, politics did not factor much into the conversations.
In today's world I only hear about doomsday scenarios and what would occcur if one party or the other is in control. I wonder if we even see the many good things happening around us, the blessings we continue to receive despite this pandemic. Has the church become a political animal?
In this blog my main endeavor is to show what faith in Jesus is really like, to strip away the decades of filth and debris that has become attached to it. But I struggle because there is so much that has to be dealt with first. Or maybe because, if you strip away all the debris and clean all the dirt, you will find that there is nothing left. That we never had that simple faith or we lost it along the way.
I will keep trying to present the faith that I learned and absorbed during those wonderful decades. I'm hoping that we can all recapture the innocence that was lost.
